Project
Context and objectives
The balance between work, family, and private life is being disrupted by profound socio-economic, demographic, and political changes that are reshaping individual life courses. These shifts are impacting families, employment, and work patterns, as well as public and corporate policies. In response, there is a growing need for innovative and ambitious research to analyze these transformations and to inform the development of effective public and organizational policies.
Research strands
Axis 1: Assessing the current state of work-life balance
This strand focuses on understanding work-life balance both broadly and within specific work and family configurations. Particular attention will be paid to the impact of new forms of employment (e.g. short-term contracts, self-employment) and new ways of working (e.g. teleworking). The analysis will also address the growing diversity of family structures, such as those resulting from separation (e.g. shared custody, stepfamilies, and single-parent households). The situation of family carers for people with disabilities or loss of autonomy—raising new challenges for reconciliation—will also be examined.
Axis 2: Exploring the interplay between family and work events
This axis aims to analyze the mutual influences between family and professional events, identifying key turning points in individuals’ careers. It will place particular emphasis on how these interactions contribute to gender inequalities in professional trajectories.
Axis 3: Evaluating workplace practices.
This strand investigates company practices to assess whether the measures implemented are effective in supporting employees’ work-life balance.
